We’re passionate about writing impactful stories.
Meet Mayah
Mayah Collins is the founder and editor-in-chief of Fruit of May—a lifestyle media company, celebrating Black women storytellers. She is also a writer and college professor, passionate about teaching students the fundamentals of journalism to help shape the field's future. She challenges her students to think critically and serve as voices for the voiceless. She emphasizes the importance of chronicling everything, especially in a time when stories can be retold, erased, or distorted.
Mayah has written for print, online, and broadcast media, gaining experience with newspapers, magazines, public relations, and digital content production. She is dedicated to helping women transform their suffering and realize their full potential through personal essays, poetry readings, and sister circles.
Born and raised in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Mayah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from Meredith College and a Master of Science degree in Multimedia Journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
About Fruit of May
Our popular events include ‘Fro My Soul, Write to Heal, and Journal to Win. Through personal essays, poetry readings, and sister circles, we want to transform women’s suffering and help them realize their full potential.
Our Bloom with Meaning learning series is an extension of Fruit of May and operates as its own ecosystem. We encourage you to do two things. First, choose your bloom — explore all areas or focus on one. Second, understand the fruit you are creating today — start now and watch it grow.
We look forward to connecting with you soon, whether through a partnership, volunteer work, writing projects, speaking engagements, or other opportunities. Reach out and let us know how we can grow together.
